The Village Playhouse's Original One Act Festival has been an ongoing project for 30 years. The festival is intended to give playwrights a means to see their work move from the paper to the stage. Working together, a playwright, a director, a cast, and a crew develop and polish scripts for presentation to an audience over the course of two weekends. To our knowledge this project is unique in the state and certainly has no competitors for longevity.

Ya Want Fries with That

by Mike Willis

Confusion is the menu's blue plate special.  A man sits down to eat at an elegant cafe.  Or maybe a diner?  Or is he just making a fast food drive thru run?   Are the wait staff there to server the food or just more confusion?

What About the Baby?

by Scott Sorensen

In a monologue, a woman talks about her neighbor, who is in jail for murdering his wife, her long missing husband and her cat.  The connections among them all are confounding to say the least.

Shakespeare and Company

by Nick Schweitzer

The Lord Chamberlain’s Men are working on a play that will become Romeo and Juliet, with Richard Burbage as the lead actor and primary shareholder of the company, Henry Condell as the young man who played female roles, John Rice as a family man of great common sense, and Shakespeare as the scribe and poet. The Earl of Southampton, who helped Shakespeare publish his first poems, enters to banter with the actors even though he and Shakespeare have fallen out of love with each other.

The Fourth Wall

by Michelle Demos

What if you could see through a wall that everyone else sees as a solid blank wall?  Would you try to break through that wall?  Or would you ignore what you saw?  And if you could break through, where would you end up?
